We saw Guys and Dolls with Patrick Swayze (which was all right). We were waiting at the stage door to meet him, but he was taking a long time and we grew impatient.
The actor who played Lt. Brannigan came out and pretended the huge crowd was for him and sang "The Sound of Music" for us. He was a lot of fun. Then Anna and I realized we didn't even really like Patrick Swayze, so we left.
Cleopatra's final resting place at the British Museum.
I'm going to try and go to church tomorrow morning so... I should probably get to bed now. Goodnight!
I do love Rufus Wainwright.
Well, I am about to run out to Central London to do some shopping but I thought that my blog is overdue for an update, so let me tell you what's going on in my life right now.
Today was only the second day it rained. The first day was really mild, practically nothing, but today it was like stepping into a shower with your clothes on. Not as warm, perhaps, but it wasn't cold. And it was very very very wet. my pants were drenched fom the knee down and I had to sit in my first class for 2 hours. Uncomfortable, I tell you what.
So, yeah, classes started today. I only had one Architecture in London. This class is like 80% Americans because we were all thinking the same thing: field trips and earning credits to do sightseeing, "brilliant" as they would say here. I talked to a very nice girl named Isabella, though, who is from Germany.
Tomorrow I have two of my other classes: The American Century and Spanish I. I hope my American history class is taught by a British professor because I'd really love to get someone else's perspective on the US... Then on Wednesday I have Europe Since 1870 which according to Isabella is boring if you already know about Europe but a good general course if your knowledge is limited. I'd say my knowledge is pretty limited, so hopefully this is a good class. I tried to choose easy classes so that the majority of my time can be spent travelling and making the most of my short time here. Hopefully that works out well for me... One thing that's nice is I only have the classes once a week for an hour, only my architecture class is 2 hours. Sweet deal, isn't it?
Ok, I gotta do shopping now because everything in London is stupid and closes at like 6. I love you all and I miss you! Bye!
Well I haven't taken too many pictures just cause the pictures don't really do this place justice and plus all the touristy stuff is very dull and I hate doing it. BUT here is what I have taken so far:
This is a building of offices but everyone calls it The Gerkin. Apparently, a gerkin is a pickle. I just learned this yesterday when I asked somebody because I always thought it was an article of clothing.
I just tried on all my bags.... yeah not gonna happen.
Looks like I AM going to London. The money should be coming through. I won't trust it until it's in my hand (or parents' hands if I'll be gone) but the school has returned certification. Today was a day of much grief and worriment on the part of my mom and I, but looks like it paid off. I'd like to take this moment to breathe a sigh of relief.
siiiiiiiiigh
Anyway, lately I've been on a huge Final Fantasy and Arcade Fire kick. Not sure what brought this on, but here's the first song I ever heard by Final Fantasy and made me love the guy.
Ok, pizza's here!
So I am supposed to be leaving for London a week from today. We'll see if that actually happens. Here's what the deal is. When I was first accepted to the program (which is not associated with my college, just an independant organizationa) my home college was supposed to handle my FAFSA so I could get federal aid so I could afford to go to London. Well, VC being the great place that it is said "Why should we do that? You're not even going to be here!" Interstudy, the study abroad program I'm going through, has never ever encountered this problem before because usually the home college is cool enough to make sure the student gets federal aid. Oh well. So Interstudy, not being a school and all, couldn't handle my FAFSA they asked their school of record, University of the Pacific, to handle it. They would not since I wasn't a student there BUT they were allow me to get an alternative student loan through them. So once I found out I took the day off work to find a lender. Before I could get a loan I had to get a cosigner. That took a while, then my Aunt Kathy agreed. Then I was conditionally approved until they got more information from her. Then she sent it. Then they needed more. Then they couldn't read the additional information so she faxed it again. Then they had to get the school certification from U of P. This was as of last Friday. A U of P counselor called me and told me she would send in the school certification electronically. So I have been calling the lender and they still haven't received the school certification. So I called U of P and the counselor hasn't sent in the certification because apparently I need to be enrolled first and the reason I'm not yet is.... unknown to me. So I called her again today and she gave me a little sass and just told me she's working on it. I asked her if there was anyone I could talk to about the registration and she was just like "uh, no, not that I know of. I'm working on it, okay?" And... that was that. So I still amd not 100% assured that I am getting this money that i need. Problem is, interstudy needs this assurance before they sned me the departure package, which has information like housing and crap. So I am waiting on the departure package from interstudy who is waiting on me to prove that I'll pay them which I am waiting on the lender to provide me with that assurance and the lender is waiting on the U of P to send back the school certification and before the school certification goes through the school needs to enroll me or something.
So... if I don't get that assurance like tomorrow... I don't know if I'll actually be going. Of course, the one solid thing I have is the plane ticket so I could always run away to London. It would just suck not having a place to live, no money and no chance of earning credits so I can stop going to VC.
If I don't go to London I will be so depressed. I'm in a really awful mood right now.
What's your favorite way to keep in touch? Phone, snail mail, email, text message, Vox, _____ ?
Probably the communication mediumI use most frequently is AIM.
It's free, it's quick, and I prefer it to talking on the phone.
But my favorite way of keeping in touch is probably through postal
mail. I LOVE receiving letters. It brightens my day and
makes me feel loved because I know that someone likes me enough to
sacrifice 39 cents on me. It would make me feel even more loved
if I got a letter from you folks in the states while I'm in London
because I think that's a whole 84 cents. How cool is
international mail? The envelope always looks so weathered and
colorful. Probably the only reason I don't communicate mainly
with letters is because they're not good if you have something very
important to say because they'll take at least 3 days to get somewhere
and by that time you could have just called them or IMed them or
e-mailed them or just gone over to their house.
Hey this topic reminds me, I got Skype on my laptop now so I can use that while I'm abroad. I don't know how it works but Michael says it's good so I trust him.
Anyway, once I get my housing info for London I'm posting it here. And I want letters. Lots and lots of letters.
Well kids, there are 36 days (if you ionclude today) until I leave
for London. It's taken a while for the reality of this to really
hit me. What will I do without burritos? What will I do
without the sun? What will I do without my mommy? These
questions arise. But I'm not too worried. I figure, I'll
only be there for 4 months so for most of the time I'll probably still
feel like I'm on vacation or something and I'll think everything is
wonderful. Then I'll come home and die of boredom because Ventura
is a terrible city and is severely lacking in nighttime
activities. Oh well. I've compiled a list of things to do
before I depart and this is it so far:
- Karaoke? (assuming we can find that place in LA again)
- See the Shakespeare fest (which ends like this weekend.. so I better get right on that)
- Plan a going away party?
- Eat massive amounts of Mexican food/In-n-Out
- Get a tan (I need to be the exotic American! Then I won't get pegged as ignorant immediately... right?)
- See Little Miss Sunshine
I don't know... that's kind of it. I also composed a list of things to do while in London and it goes as follows:
- Meet and marry and British boy just like this:
